Maarifa Historical Agency is a boutique agency which specializes in African American, African, and African Diasporic Public and Family History. Maarifa is the Swahili term for “knowledge,” and we believe that recovering knowledge and information from our past will empower our present and liberate our future.

Meet Dr. Lindsay Gary
Dr. Lindsay Gary is professor-scholar (of history, African American Studies/Africology, and dance), Afrocentric Entrepreneur, Conceptual DiasporArtist and Cultural Curator. She is a certified genealogist and public historian, and is the author of The New Red Book: A Guide to 50 of Houston's Black Historical and Cultural Sites, and the director and creator of "Who Yo' People?", a documentary film that explores the African heritage of Louisiana.
